A California-Cool Cottage in Pasadena

I found this elegant cottage in HGTV magazine and discovered the design of California and Virginia-based interior designer Amy Peltier. The bi-coastal designer unites California-casual with a hint of Midwestern tradition and uses natural, bold accents like the floral wallpaper featured in the above image.

The Source of My Inspiration

Amy Hgtv Magazine

The above is the cover of the HGTV Magazine issue in which I found Amy Peltier’s work. The feature inside the magazine explains how Amy helped a young couple to double the size of their cute cottage while maintaining its original charm. I love the eclectic, fresh feel of this cottage. Here are some of my favorite looks from this project.

A Calming, Inviting Entryway

The entryway is a testament to the home's subtle coastal theme with shiplap-inspired paneling, light French oak floors, a built-in bench, and framed butterflies on the wall. I am a big fan of the abstract, white and blue art.

A Leisurely Living Room

Comfort and style are perfectly balanced in this sun-kissed living room. The blue theme is showcased in the bobbin chair by CR Laine, while the wooden mini coffee table by Dovetail adds warmth and complements the tan-color sofa. The printed rug brings it all together perfectly and adds texture to the room.

Sun-kissed Kitchens and Dining

The open layout kitchen and dining has ample storage with a tall, white pantry while the scallop tile backsplash and the Chippendale chairs around the rustic table stay true to the coastal-blue theme. The standout features in the space have to be the glass pendants above the island and the chandelier by Arteriors Home that’s made with wood beads.

A Compact, Elegant Master Bedroom

I love the deep blue, velvet, 6-foot-tall headboard by CR Laine! It’s the focal point of design in this bedroom that oozes comfortable elegance. The green glass lamps, the grasscloth wallpaper by Thibaut, and earthy linen and upholstery create a relaxed color contrast.

A Guest Room and Bathroom to Impress

California Cool Cottage Pasadena

This guestroom is a medley of bold patterns and greens, all of which delight and refresh the mind. I adore the blue bedside lamps by Circa Lighting and how well they match the green-themed palette and the floral wallpaper by Clarke & Clarke.

The blue-tiled floor makes a color statement while the rest of the bathroom is all about light hues. The circular mirror and glass wall lights complement the printed wallpaper, which is a design highlight of this space.

Playful Kid’s Rooms and Bathroom

Amy Peltier Minimal Design

The built-in shelves with a study desk and bulletin board offer both storage and style, and the clutter-free, minimal look for a kid’s room is on-point. The blue chair is on my must-have list!

A cool-blue bathroom that’s well-lit and minimal. My favorite? The blue light by Feiss.

A Coastal-hued Laundry Room

When a laundry room looks so relaxed, it turns the chore into a pleasant pastime. The subtle blue on the cabinets, the mini blue-tiled floor, and the neatly lined built-in for the washing machine and dryer — this design is a shining example of uniting style and functionality.

I hope you enjoyed browsing this home as much as I did.
