Aspen Mountain Retreat: The Experience of Elegant Harmony

Imagine waking up each day to a stunning mountain view, breathing in the fresh, crisp air, and sipping on your favorite drink while reading your favorite book. A beautiful home in the mountains is a dream for many, and I am here to take you on a tour of one of those perfect houses that truly captures the essence of mountain-home romance.

Colorado-based Joe McGuire and Matthew Tenzin of Joe McGuire Design created this beautiful home in Aspen's historic West End neighborhood that seamlessly blends with the natural surroundings. The new construction features a traditional-transitional style with large, open rooms and steel-framed windows and doors for ample natural light. To balance the steel elements, the interior design incorporates a sense of softness. Let's take a closer look at the design details.

A Custom Entryway

The custom-designed entryway boasts a sleek and sophisticated look with its built-in mirror featuring integrated coat hooks and a shelf for hats. The design was inspired by a similar piece the client had in one of their other homes. The addition of a stunning pendant made of marble, glass, and black steel adds a charming touch to the overall aesthetic.

Bright, Inviting Living Room

In the foyer, one is greeted by the spacious great room with ample comfortable seating arrangements. The Shere Khan curtains draped over the large windows, allow the perfect amount of light to filter in while also ensuring privacy. The white oak plank flooring in the living room adds a touch of character, preventing the space from appearing too sleek and modern, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The pitched ceiling, also covered in white oak planking, adds a cohesive and harmonious appeal to the room.

The client requested furniture that would accommodate their tall, athletic, and active family members, so the designers chose deep and luxurious seating with a soft, textured, shaggy fabric to provide warmth and comfort. To complement the furniture, a gray-blue Marathon rug is added to ground the space, while a striking David Yarrow photograph of a polar bear adds visual interest.

The living room boasts a blend of custom-made and designer-picked pieces from top showrooms in New York, Los Angeles, and nearby Denver. The space exudes sophistication with the addition of Jonathan Browning chandeliers, sleek black steel lamps, and a stunning piece of art by Thomas Ruff above the sofa. The two oversized cocktail tables, featuring white lacquer tops and ebonized wood bases, were specifically crafted to match the client's preference for large tables.

The designers chose an elegant mixture of textural fabrics throughout the home to ensure a warm, welcoming, cozy environment, characteristic of a mountain home. From velvet to sheepskin, cashmere, and alpaca, each fabric adds warmth and personality to the home. For example, the four swiveling Hickory chairs are covered in cashmere fabric, the two chartreuse-colored Edelman poofs in front of the fireplace are made of leather, and the beautiful gray sofa is made of soft alpaca blue clay fabric.

Functional Kitchen With Luxurious Touches

The kitchen showcases elegance and beauty that is on par with the rest of the home. The brown cabinets provide a striking contrast to the timeless subway tile backsplash.

A home bar graces one end of the kitchen, where the designers had custom shelving built in black steel. The designers also included a unique touch by adding a white painted glass wall that shines when illuminated.

The breakfast area boasts a one-of-a-kind dining table and chairs crafted from ebonized wood and adorned with stylish leather strapping, creating a sophisticated look. A basket-like light fixture serves as a stunning focal point, while shiplap paneling on the walls adds a touch of texture. For added convenience, the designers have also included motorized shades that can be easily raised and lowered with the press of a button.

Elegant Dining Area for Formal Gatherings

The dining room leads to an inviting patio featuring a tranquil water feature in the seating area, ideal for unwinding. The dining space boasts elegant blue-beige upholstered chairs and a spacious dining table, making it perfect for hosting gatherings with loved ones. The thought-provoking artwork adorning the walls serves as a conversation starter during meals.

Beautiful Bedrooms With Plenty of Comforts

Upstairs, the bedrooms are all designed to induce comfort and relaxation with soft furnishings and soothing color palettes. With four bedrooms, this home ensures plenty of room for a big, beautiful mountain holiday with family and friends.

A Slice of Heaven

The home boasts a stunning open and bright atmosphere, allowing for ample airflow and natural light to flow throughout the space, making it a serene sanctuary for connecting with nature and oneself. It offers plenty of room for calm contemplation, meditation, and rejuvenation, making its inhabitants truly fortunate to call it their own piece of paradise.
